Is there a secret or a piece of advice you would like to pass along to other young real estate professionals that will help them become more successful in the industry?
I would like to share one misconception I think a lot of people have about this business…it’s not easy. This is a very hard, and at times, very stressful business. This is not a profession you just try out; instead, it tries you out. It’s very easy to work seven days a week, 10 hours a day, unless you set some boundaries and have a plan of action. It is important to know what you want from this job and have a written plan of how you’re going to get there, then be disciplined and stick to your plan. You must always put your clients first and always put their needs ahead of your own. Be very honest and straight forward with your clients, and always stay in touch with them. Let them know they are not just another transaction to you and be sure your actions match your words.

What is the biggest challenge you see in the residential real estate market currently and how do you propose its solution?Currently, the media is creating quite a negative stir concerning the real estate market, which in turn is creating a lot of unnecessary doubt in the minds of the consumer. The fact of the matter is that purchasing a home is still your best investment for the long haul. Even with the decline in pricing in some markets, the Federal Reserve affirms that long-term home equity is still on the rise. Not only that, but in many parts of the country, there has not been a price decline. The National Association of Realtors has recorded that 2007 was the 4th best year recorded in home sells, with over 5 million homes sold. With interest rates at their lowest and a greater number of homes on the market for a buyer to choose from, this is a great time to buy a home. So for the most part, the fear of losing money in the sale of a home is unsubstantiated. And as an agent, there, of course, is still money to be made.

Do you have a prediction about the residential real estate market for 2008?
Today’s market creates challenges that only the true real estate professional can address. This is a great market for an agent who is willing to treat their profession like running a business. No longer are the days where you can just put up a sign in the yard and sell a listing in a couple of weeks. You have to have a business and marketing plan and then work that plan. I believe this market will separate the “wanabees” from the “bees.”
