What do you recommend for those interested in starting their own business?
I feel the most important thing you can do if you are considering starting your own company is to do your homework up-front. There is a lot you need to take into account when starting your own business: how you are going to define your business (LLC, sole proprietorship, etc.); structuring your business model; billing for work; and how you plan to market your products and/or services can be filled with complexity. I believe it is critical to gather as much information as you can first and talk to as many other entrepreneurs as possible to educate yourself on the pitfalls of starting your own business.

Any other advice for our readers who are “newbies” to entrepreneurship?
Do not be afraid of rejection. You will face rejection, possibly many times before you score your first “sale.” You must look at every rejection as a chance to learn, to grow, and to improve on what you are doing.

Is there something unique about your business plan that sets your sole proprietorship apart from your competition?
I feel that providing these types of consulting services on an independent, contract basis is more attractive for many of the smaller “niche” relocation companies who do not have consulting teams as part of their internal business model. As the majority of the work I do is project work, it is more cost effective for these companies to hire someone on a contract basis to provide consulting services to their clients versus supporting a consulting team on payroll.
